The house is situated in that part of Umbria known as the Upper Tiber Valley. At 500m. above sea level, it is about 300m. above the valley it overlooks. The hills are no longer cultivated as intensively as they used to be and are now heavily wooded.
The nearest villages to the North are San Leo Bastia, San Pietro a’ Monte, Calzolaro, and Trestina. The much larger town of Citta’ di Castello is a little further to the North and is reached in half an hour or so. To the South is the village of Spedalicchio, with the town of Umbertide again some 30 minutes from the house. These towns can provide all the services you need, and the area offers innumerable bars, restaurants, pizzerias, etc.
Use of a car is essential. The 1:200,000 road maps from the Touring Club of Italy are ideal for getting around by car. They are widely available in the UK.
